Default Adding lightness to rooms?

What would you do to add light to a room that is pretty dark. There are windows in the room- but the lighting stinks!

Would you change the paint color?

Keep in mind that I like privacy so I use shades on the windows.

Default Light

Hi KrisNY
Any light pastel colour will bring light to your room, the use of mirrors can also be effective to change the light source direction.
Go for white with a hint of colour and pick up this maybe in a darker tone in small elements of the rooms decor i.e. custions or lamp shades.
Never use dark colours on a ceiling and the trim (wood work etc.) should also be of a light shade or white. If you find this too bland may be think of a feature wall in a different colour, be careful of your choice and good luck with that ' cutting in'. Mark.

Have you thought about instead of using shades, getting those clings that can go right on the window. It allows the light to come in the window, but it doesn't allow people to see in.

I do agree that you can also lighten up a room by using lighter colored paint. I am not a huge fan of white walls, but light colors.

I'm not a huge fan of white walls either- I like colors- I think I'll try to use lighter brighter colors in the living room when I redo it. It's the darkest room in the house.
I never thought about mirrors- I didn't think that they would brighten up a room- Can you explain why this would work?

Light paint colors would work or adding more lights to your room.

I have never heard that mirrors add more light---but I guess maybe they reflect the light? I have heard that mirrors make small rooms look bigger.

Mirrors actually make a room look bigger. I am not sure about making it seem lighter.

You can use task lighting. Decorative task lightings are used to improve the fashion in the room. These lights will avoid unnecessary strain on your eyes as these lighting will be very sober.

A good use of mirrors will reflect a lot of light from your window around the room, as well as some light paint work.

Default Adding lightness to rooms

I noticed in your forum here, there are adsense adds scattered throughout. How did you do that ? I would like to put some adds on my forum also, maybe others too.

Thanks,
Mike
