I have an open fire in my living room, but the roof plaster around the chimney is starting to crack and fall away. I think this is probably due to the heat. Is there such thing as a heat resistant plaster that I can replace the existing plaster with?

no there is no heat resistant plaster, replace with a sand and cement mix gauged at 4 sand 1 cement making sure the area you need to apply too is dust free apply a thin coat then allow to dry out naturally with out any heat.this is not fail proof but probally the best option.

Well in that case, someone should invent some heat proof plaster!!!
Thanks for the tip. Will I be able to paint over it easily so it looks like the rest of the roof?

I think there is no heat resistant plaster. You have to use fireproof blocks, then plaster over them.

Fire resistant cement. Scratch coat 4-1 and top coat 6-1. Job done
