I need advice of what I can do to repair a small hole in my dining room roof. When I say small I mean probably fist size.

It looks like the previous owners have moved the light point into the centre of the room, and have left the hole in its wake. How can I fill it in to make it look neat and like it was never there in the first place?

That is a tough one. I would think that you could fill it in- but then the color might be off. Might need to fill it in- and then repaint the entire ceiling?

you must use a pad saw to cut through and find your joists in the ceiling mark 2 neat lines either side of the hole in your ceiling and cut the hole out and replace it with new plasterboard then mark with a pencil 1 inch around the replacment board and take back to the existing board with a stanley knife fix fibre tape over the joint you then mix a little bit of plaster to the right consistancy wet around the patch with water then apply the finish to your ceiling infilling your replacment board keep the plaster around the edges clean and back to your existing ceiling then in half an hour apply second coat of plaster keep the edges flat at all times then wait until plaster starts to dull then apply water and trowel using presure check you patch is flush with your existing ceiling and free from hollows then towel to a smooth finish

We are actually facing a similar problem with the roof in our bedroom. Thank you for the great advice on patch repair!

Wow! Thanks for the advice. I would have just added a piece of sheet rock to the hole. I am glad I read this post before. I have a hole in my bathroom ceiling that needs to be fixed. Now I can do it on my own--even if I am a girl...LOL
