Stucco vs. Adobe

I heard that applying Stucco or Adobe over bricks is the easiest way to deal with old mortar on exteriors. The only problem is that I don't know the difference between Adobe and Stucco.

Are there differences in texture and application?

I am not familiar with adobe - I know of adobe bricks but not of a topical type sealant. I know there should be other options for you though outside of those. Hopefully, someone with a little experience on their side will stop in and explain the differences and any other options that are available.
