In 2007 I decided that I had had enough of the boring 9 to 5, sitting in an office, staring at the computer screen, four walls etc… I decided to go for something complete different!

I searched the internet for plastering courses, I had no experience in plastering (and when I say no experience I mean NONE!!), I had in my teens done some labouring for a builder in the summer but nothing more than that. I choose Plastering because it always interested me but didn’t think that it was something that I could ever do... A cliché but true!!

After sifting through the options Able Skills stood out for various reasons, two of which were their flexibility in how you could attend the courses and their understanding to people like me who don’t come from trade back grounds.

Within a week I was on the Plastering City & Guilds. I was in full time employment Mon – Friday so travelled 140 mile round trip every weekend to train but I met people that travelled 3x times that so I couldn’t complain.

I found the tutors ‘ Spence and Brian ‘ to not only be professional, but a bloody good laugh, sometimes you need that when you are covered in plaster and angle beads are falling off the wall!..

But saying that, by the time it came to do the practical assessments at the end of the course, the confidence levels were high and the new beginning was in sight! I passed them all and took great pleasure in telling my old boss were to stick his job!

Nearly a year on I have my own be it small plastering business, Macks Plastering: www.macksplastering.co.uk but its mine and I have Able Skills to thank for that, I have repeat clients, recommendations, and a great website with matching van, t-shirts and business cards. It’s great to be your own boss and would recommend anyone toying with the idea of making that change to do it!

I want to say a big thank you to the team at Able Skills and will see you in the future I’m sure. Check out my website, you can view the image gallery which has pictures of my recent work.

Cheers Guys,

Adam Mackenzie :)

gerard , Im really happy that Aria and Kipelov are famous not only in Russia but also in other countries, particularly in France. Can you tell us which of their songs you like most? Thank you
