Here is a tip for all home owners, that I had to learn the hard way.


Make sure you check out your hot water tank ever so often. I ended up having to replace the floor and walls around my tank. It had a very slow leak (must be for a long time), and it rotted the floor it sits on and the walls around it. I did not notice until the floor underneath gave way and my tank leaned over against the wall. Then I had a huge leak and a huge mess.

Who would have thought to check the tank for leaks? I do now---every once in awhile.

I know where it is and you are right. It really needs to be checked every so often. My husband does that at least every quarter.

Yes, leaking hot water tanks literally ruins the surrounding. We had the same problem in our walls and we have to tear it down and rebuilt it.

The expert at our local DIY store advices us on a great hot water tank and he told us that this is one of these items you should not try to save money on.

We just finally went out and bought a new hot water heater after going without running hot water for a few months. Trust me it was a buggar!!! Having to heat water for everything in large stock pots on the stove....urgh! Back in May they were doing construction in our neighborhood having to do with the water and sewer and when they accidentally cut our water off, our hot water heater gave out, but the construction company swore it couldn't have been that which caused our water heater to give out. I honestly think it was though and that they should have been responsible for replacing it, but no, it didn't work out that way. It's one of those things that are just a pain to have to replace as well with it being down in the basement and having to be drained and such. Poor hubby...but after being without for so long, I think he was glad to be doing it this time!!
