What plumbing job would you consider to be just too big for a typical home owner, so they will have to hire a plumber?
Where do you draw the line?

depends on how much knowledge the home owner has in plumbing
It depends on the homeowner's capabilities. There are simple jobs that are too complicated for some so they'll hire a plumber. For others, no job is too big and diy is even more exciting.

I think the one job that we would have to call in the experts would be changing the boiler. It is the sort of thing that you need doing right, so a qualified tradesman would be better for something like this in our house.

Boiler changes are too big for any DIY task in my opinion. Not even for my husband who is pretty handy in most plumbing tasks.

I think most of the repairing jobs such as replacing radiators, overflow pipe and internal stop tap are a bit more professional for the home owners to handle.

Almost anything related to plumbing is too much for me:D
My husband is pretty handy though and I don't know what he would consider too tough.

My husband is a great handy man, but the one thing we don't have him attempt is the plumbing.
When we were in our first home, he tried to fix some plumbing and ended up hooking the hot water to the cold and the cold to the hot, then he cut the line so he couldn't switch it back! That was the end of his plumbing.

Anything that goes beyond the walls of the home should be handled by professionals, mainly because somewhere along the line, the city's water pipes start showing up!

that is true! :D
I am an average guy, with average handy skills and abilities.
Now I have to explain what I mean by 'average' :D
No, I am just kidding :)
I can do basic things around the house, like change door knobs, clean AC coils inside the main unit, change ceiling fixtures, put up drywall and finish it, so on...
