I am looking to emigrate to australia in the near future but need a trade qualification to assist my application to emigrate.
I did a course with you about 4 to 5 years ago and have been busy with work both on a domestic and site level.
can you tell me what my options are for gaining a qualification.
thanks

Glad to see all is going well for you and that you are busy.
Sounds like to me that you maybe eligible for the NVQ via the EWPA route.
Basically you would probably have built up clients over the past four to five years who you have worked for.
Assuming that you have been site based then you must have a CSCS card which is a requirement of EWPA (expericened worker practical assessment).
if you have not got a CSCS card then we can arrange this
If you can meet performance criteria by way of photographic evidence (with yourself in the photo's) of work at the start, during and completion of jobs, gain witness testimonies from client's/contractors from these jobs, satisfy job knowledge requirements which are in the form of questions from the assessor, complete a timed practical test at our centre and finally undertake a recorded professional discussion with myself (the assessor) then this is the route that you should consider.
If you are local pop in anyday (monday to sunday) to discuss one to one.
I know it's been some time but i am sure i will remember you from your initial training with us.
If you or anybody else has an enquiry about the EWPA route, give us an e-mail or call us.
hope this helps you out

I am interested in tiling and early this year completed a short course with another training centre. I was less than impressed with the course content there and i am tempted to book with able skills as they offer a broader course content and trade qualifications.
Could anyone get back to me who has trained there!
Also although it is early day's for myself is there anyway that i can achieve an NVQ without having the experience that is required for a experienced worker route?
I have lot's of work in the pipeline as i have work lined up from a mate of mine who is a plumber (who is always being offered the tiling work but has not got the time or the patience),some of it is site based, some of it residential.
I understand that by 2010 (13 months time)I need a qualification to work on site and some of the work is site based!
can someone help

Hello Dave,
What you will need to do is attend one of our longer courses to broaden your skills and knowledge, during which time you will be issued with an NVQ candidate folder.
The contents of this folder explain to you exactly what is required to achieve the NVQ once out in the workplace, for instance, what criteria's need to be met, what tolerance's are required, what information the NVQ assessor (Myself) require's to assess each unit.
It sounds to me that someone like yourself will be an ideal candidate for this route.
Give us a call on 01322 280202 or pop in on anyday and i will be able to explain in greater detail.
