I have heard that mixing and expensive paint with a glaze will increase the amount of wall space that can be covered.

I worry, though, that it won't give me the color depth that attracted me to the original, expensive paint, to begin with.

Am I just being too picky, or would glaze really change the appearance of the paint color on the finished wall?

I've never heard of this. It makes the paint better so you can paint more? I would think that it might change the color of the paint as well. I wouldn't do it.

Yeah, it is generally done to increase the wall space that has to be painted. Although it does changes the color to some extent, it doesn't really affect the color and texture of the paint to a great extent and most of the time you can never be able to spot the difference.

Hi DianaR
Anything you add to paint will of course increase its volume and it wiil go further ,but you are right that opacity (covering power) will be effected.A good quailty paint such as Dulux Vynil Matt can be diluted and will still have good covering power,if your aim was to make the paint washable why not use a soft sheen or vinyl silk also there is a new genaration of more hard wearing emulsions recently developed by various manufactures.
